So Jesus said again, “I assure you: I am the door of the sheep. All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture. John 10:7-9 HCSB
Have you ever stopped to think about how many doors you have in your house? I was surprised when I discovered that I have 31 doors in my house. There is the garage door, the front door, the back door, the door to the bathroom, the closet door, the bedroom door, and the list goes on and on. A door is a passage way from one location to another. The bedroom door is the passage way from the hall into the bedroom while the front door is the passage way from outside to inside the house. Without a door it would be impossible to get the different areas of my house.
Jesus proclaims twice in these verses, “I am the door.” He is not literally a door but He was illustrating that He was the way for people to come into His sheep pen (heaven) and that He would take good care of His sheep, protecting them from the thieves and robbers. He would also help His sheep (followers) to find pasture, illustrating that He would take care of their physical and spiritual needs if they would only trust Him.
Challenge: Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through Me” (John 14:6). As believers, we know the only way for people to have eternal life. We need to be sharing the Good News with everyone around us each day. Who will you open the door for today and share Jesus with them?
