Then war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels also fought, but he could not prevail, and there was no place for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was thrown out – the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the one who deceives the whole world. He was thrown to earth, and his angels with him. Revelation 12:7-9 HCSB
War is terrible and takes so many young lives. Even if the fight is for a good cause, war can be devastating to an individual, a family, and even a nation. War should be avoided at all costs, but sometimes it is necessary to accomplish a greater good. My father fought with the Marines in World War II in the Philippine islands. Because of the difficult experiences that my father endured, he never wanted to talk about what happened while serving with the Marines.
These Scriptures tell us that a war between the forces of good and evil was under way. Satan and his angels are defeated and thrown out of heaven. As believers in Jesus, we can be assured that through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross we have also defeated Satan. With Christ’s resurrection, Satan’s defeat was assured. Someday Satan will be bound and thrown into the lake of fire so he can no longer do evil to anyone.
Challenge: You have won the victory through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Satan has no power over you. Trust in God to guide and direct you. He loves you and wants you to succeed in living for Him. Thank God that through Christ you have won the victory over Satan and evil.
