Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go over there to worship; then we will come back to you.” Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac. In his hand he took the fire and the sacrificial knife, and the two of them walked on together. Genesis 22:5-6 HCSB
Abraham is known for his great faith. When he said, “We” will come back was he just saying that or was he confident that God would provide a sacrifice in place of Isaac and the two of them would return? Or did he believe that Isaac would come back to life, or did he think that Isaac would not really die? We do not really know what Abraham was thinking, but we do know that he was confident the two of them would come back and the Bible even records those confident words of Abraham’s faith in God.
The wood being placed on Isaac was a foreshadowing of Christ carrying His cross. Isaac carried the wood intended for the sacrifice and Christ carried the cross made of wood on which He would be sacrificed for the sins of all mankind.
Challenge: Too many times we doubt God or we are not willing to completely trust Him and have the faith that He will take care of everything. As children of God we must understand that God loves us and wants only the best for us. Everything may not go as we desire or plan, but everything will go as God plans. His ways are always best even if we do not understand. Just as Abraham, we must have faith and confidence in God. Pray that God would help you have the faith needed to face every challenge in life.
