Discrimination

The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. Acts 10:45 HCSB

Discrimination in our country against black Americans in the 1950’s and 60’s was unimaginable. Many were forced to ride in the back of a bus and refused service at the restaurants. They were forced to drink water from a fountain labeled, “Colored People” and disallowed the use of certain restrooms. Their human dignity was stripped away through the prejudice and oppression of those who did not understand that God created all people in His image.

The circumcised believers were those Jews who were believers and had come with Peter. They were surprised that God’s Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles. God message is for everyone. The Bible says, “Whosoever believes in Him shall be saved.” The “Whosoever” includes people like Billy Graham and Mother Teresa but also includes murderers and child molesters. No one is excluded.

Challenge: We should have the same attitude that God has – we should love and accept everyone who believes regardless of their race, nationality or belief system. Ask God to point out your prejudices and to help you to love all people regardless of their differences or what they have done.
