I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel. Genesis 3:15 HCSB
Too often in battles you hear of soldiers being killed by “friendly fire,” meaning that fellow soldiers have mistaken them for the enemy and fired on them. If we are going to defeat the enemy, we need to know who we are fighting and make sure we are not hurting our fellow soldiers.
Satan is our enemy and he will try to get us to follow his evil plans. Too often Christians attack other Christians. I have heard the saying, “Christians are the only people who shoot their wounded instead of helping them.” The phrase, “You will strike his heel” refers to Satan’s attempt to kill and defeat Christ. “He will crush your head” refers to Christ’s final defeat of Satan when He rose from the dead. From the beginning of time God had a plan to defeat Satan and bring forgiveness and salvation to mankind through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Challenge: Remember who you are fighting against. It is not your spouse, your boss, or even your friend. When there are disagreements and conflicts, remember who you are really fighting – Satan. He desires to destroy your life and your witness for Christ. Stay strong in God’s Word and use His Word to defeat Satan and his temptations.
