The word of the Lord came through Haggai the prophet: “Is it a time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?” Haggai 1:3-4 HCSB
Our church has just initiated a new capital campaign. The purpose is to raise funds to make some much needed improvements to our facilities. We identified a need to renovate several areas so we can more effectively reach and minister to people. The first project will be a renovation of our preschool and children’s area to make it more inviting and to enhance our security. Our previous campaign focused on paying down debt, but we feel that we now need to turn our focus to improving God’s house.
The prophet Haggai brought a message from God to the people. He asked how the people could live in luxury while God’s house was lying in ruins. The Temple was the center of the community and its rebuilding had been halted for approximately 15 years. The people put their energies into beautifying their own homes but they had neglected God’s temple.
Challenge: Be careful to not neglect your spiritual life just like the people in Haggai’s time had neglected and halted the rebuilding of the God’s temple. Take time each day to read God’s Word and pray so you can stay spiritually fit.
