Inspired Word of God

First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one's own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21 HCSB

Over 100 million Bibles are sold or given away for free every year in the world, according to The Economist. The Bible is the most widely distributed and best-selling book in the world. Its message is God's Word to mankind so we might know Him and understand how He is working in the world for our own good. In the United States we are fortunate to be allowed to own a Bible and to worship freely. There are many places in the world where it is illegal to have a Bible. Consequently, some believers world-wide are not privileged to have a copy of God's Word.

Peter is telling us in these verses that the Scriptures are not just words that have been made up by men, but they are actually the Words of God Himself. God allowed men to be involved in the writing of the Scriptures as each was inspired and directed by the Holy Spirit. Each prophet of the Old Testament was inspired by the Holy Spirit as he spoke and gave a Word from God. Our Creator made sure that what was written in the Bible was the message that was intended and was correctly communicated.

Challenge: Thank God for His Word and that you are privileged to have a copy. Spend time reading your Bible to know more about God and how you can live your life in a way that would be pleasing to Him.
